Summer dresses for the Niece

More dresses for my niece :) The pattern is Ottobre 03/2007 #16 with a few small variations to make them a little different from each other. Fabrics/notions all from stash, gotta love having a large fabric collection lol!

Blue flowers, well aged fabric left over from making Princess a coat around five years ago. A line skirt (underskirt from #16).

Otto 03/07 #15/16

I stitched narrow blue ricrac around the bodice seam and at the hemline.

Fairies! A border print from the Tillbrook collection, this uses the gathered rectangle skirt from #15 and I added a narrow satin ribbon around the bodice seam. It's nice to actually use some of my trims instead of just looking at them! This one is my favourite :)

Mermaids this time, from the Mendocino collection by Heather Ross. The mermaids are technically supposed to go horizontally but I like them better this way and it makes no real difference to the dress. This one has a two layer gathered rectangle skirt, top shorter than the bottom so the seahorses can peep out along the hemline.

I also added ties at the side seam.

And just a little more Heather Ross because, let's face it, she designs absolutely gorgeous fabrics for little girls :) Unicorns from the Far Far Away line, this fabric is beautifully soft and floaty, perfect for summer. Gathered rectangle skirt again.

Otto 03/07 #15/16

I had around 33" of this fabric which was just enough to fussy cut the front and back bodices.

I have to make some for my Baby now, they are so quick and fun to make!

  1. Beautiful dresses, all of them! My favorite is the fairy dress, but I like them all. Great job, and very inspiring for me to think about using some of my stash.

  4. Thank you :)

Joy, if I could I would marry whoever invented the invisible zipper foot! A 3/8" seam allowance and applying it up to the edge of the fabric makes it so easy. I couldn't insert a regular zip to save myself though, it has to be invisible :)
